Paintball is a very popular activity that has grown so much that there are many variations of the game today that encompass a variety of rules and locations. A commonality among paintball players is that at one time or another the question of where they can play has arisen. Whether indoors or outdoors, all of the various places to play paintball comes with their own benefits and drawbacks.

The two types of locations for paintball are commercial paintball parks, which are indoor or outdoor, and what is referred to as a "renegade" or an "outlaw" location. Commercial parks usually offer services, such as rest rooms, food service, equipment sales, instruction, referees and locker rooms. Renegade locations do not offer these services and are usually held on private land, thereby avoiding rules and regulations.

There are benefits and drawbacks associated with both the commercial paintball parks and the renegade parks. The commercial parks offer structure, assistance and services. They have referees available to help determine the game. The renegade parks offer freedom due to their lack of regulations and rules opening up a wide-range of styles of paintball play, but there is also more physical risk involved due to the lack of supervision.

My favorite place to play paintball is on my dad's farm. There are about 4 acres of land available to me and my friends. We go hard for about three hours, hiding in the trees and doing it military style. We try to do it at least every weekend if weather permits.
